CREATION OF THE CIVIL ASSOCIATION OF THE FAMILY OF MOTHER  CÁNDIDA IN VENEZUELA

Daughters of Jesus and laypeople of the Andean province of America have dedicated a good deal of time to the realization of a process of discernment in Venezuela.  The Provincial Government, sisters from Colombia, who had been in that country, and the Provincial Superior of Brazil-Caribbean were involved. The Provincial Government of América Andina presented the proposal they had reached: to form a civil association with the name of ASOCIACIÓN CIVIL FAMILIA MADRE CÁNDIDA VENEZUELA. The objective of this Association – which legally has to be made up of Venezuelans – is to give continuity to the promotion and health projects that the Daughters of Jesus have accompanied for twenty years in this country. We have done this accompaniment together with the laity, with them, we work and we have been formed together until we feel like family.

The General Government has reflected and prayed over the discernment process they have made and the proposal they have sent us. After which, I have had a meeting with the Provincial Superior of America Andina, General Councilor Sonia Regina Rosa, the President, and Treasurer proposed for this Association. There were also Sisters Matilde Polanco Álvarez and María del Carmen Caballero Alarcón. In that conversation, we have specified details to carry out together the new mode of the real presence of the Daughters of Jesus in the project without having a community in Venezuela.

We believe that today it is possible to take this step. In addition to this Association, it was seen as convenient to have an "advisory council" in which the Daughters of Jesus, who, without being present there continuously could nevertheless be able to accompany this work. I have already given the authorization to start this path and it will be evaluated in due course. And I am also considering which among the Daughters of Jesus will be able to accompany this project from wherever they are. May the Lord enlighten this search.  I know of course that I count on the availability of all.

From letter nº 23 of the Superior General.
